Dissection Electives in Human Anatomy

For 1st year students:

Dissection of thorax in 6 sessions

NB: Priority will be given to students who have not previously taken any dissection elective.
If the # of students who sign up exceeds capacity, a selection will be done randomly by computer.

Clinical Anatomy Elective

This elective is reserved for Residents upon approval of their Program Director and PGME office.

  • Instructors: Dr. Max Hincke and Dr. Alireza Jalali
  • Location: The Division of Clinical and Functional Anatomy, RGN, 2240
  • Duration: 4 Weeks
  • Number of Residents: 2 Maximum

Description of Elective:

Clinical Anatomy:

The resident will be able to dissect and review Clinical Anatomy concepts in Musculoskeletal, Cardiovascular, Endocrine, Nervous, Respiratory, Renal and Gastrointestinal anatomy (See Below).

Research:

The resident will be required to contribute to ongoing scholarship activities of The Division of Clinical and Functional Anatomy:

  • Development of e-Learning tools
  • Medical education research
  • Clinical Anatomy research
  • Medical student teaching (optional)

Evaluation:

For each Clinical Anatomy session, residents will be provided a list of objectives which needs to be covered during that session. At the end of each session this list will be returned to supervisor for assessment.

At the end of the 4 weeks, the resident will present an oral presentation and/or a poster of their research project to The Division of Clinical and Functional Anatomy members.

  • Session 1 (Pituitary & Adrenal Glands, Pancreas, Thyroid & Parathyroid Glands)

Human Reproduction & Sexuality Anatomy

  • Session 1 (Female & Male Genital Organs)
  • Session 2 (Bony Pelvis, Pelvic Wall, Floor &Perineum)

Musculoskeletal Anatomy

  • Session 1 (Vertebral Column & Back)
  • Session 2 (Back, Neck & Abdominal Wall)
  • Session 3 (Shoulder Joint, Scapular & Pectoral Regions, Axilla)
  • Session 4 (Elbow Joint, Anterior & Posterior Arm & Forearm)
  • Session 5 (Wrist, Dorsum & Palm of Hand)
  • Session 6 (Hip Joint, Flexor, Extensor, Adductor & Abductor Muscles …)
  • Session 7 (Knee Joint, Anterior & Posterior Leg, Ankle, Dorsum & Sole of Foot)

  • Session 1 (Fundamentals of the Nervous System)
  • Session 2 (Meninges & Cerebral Vasculature)
  • Session 3 (E.N.T & Ophthalmology)
  • Session 4 (Head & Neck)

Cardiovascular Anatomy

  • Session 1 (Heart & Blood vessels)

Respiratory Anatomy

  • Session 1 (Trachea, Bronchi, Pleura, Lungs, Thoracic Walls, Mediastinum & Diaphragm)

Renal Anatomy

  • Session 1 (Kidneys & Urinary System)

Gastrointestinal Anatomy

  • Session 1 (Oesophagus, Stomach, Duodenum)
  • Session 2 (Jejunum, Ileum, Large Intestine)
  • Session 3 (Pancreas, Bile Passages, Liver)
